Patrick Mason has released Hood Dub 7, his debut solo single, on MASONICS. The track is out now across streaming platforms and is the first release from his forthcoming three-track Glory EP. It arrives just ahead of Amsterdam Dance Event, where MASONICS has a takeover booked at Lofi.
The single reworks Paranoid London's Paris Dub 1 and puts Mason's own vocals into the centre of the track. In the release announcement, Mason tied the record back to Berlin and said it pays homage to his early days at Berghain. That makes Hood Dub 7 both a new solo release and a direct nod to one of the tracks he says first pulled him toward techno.
The same announcement frames MASONICS as an extension of Mason's identity and as a place for experimentation. It also says the imprint is meant to give space to people who often find access denied. While Hood Dub 7 is confirmed as the first release from the three-track Glory EP, the announcement does not give a release date for the full EP.
MASONICS' next public step is its ADE event at Lofi on Wednesday, October 21. Mason is set to curate the night with Laure Croft, Yasmin Regisford, Shinedoe and special guest DJ Rush on the lineup. German choreographer Soraya Schulthess and her DANCÆ collective are also due to present a specially commissioned work during the event.
