Sunwaves Festival, one of the most iconic electronic music festivals in Europe, has announced that its upcoming 2025 edition, SW35, will be the last one held in Romania. After 18 years on the Black Sea coast, the festival is preparing for a new chapter, in a new country.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the organizers said the decision was out of their control but filled with gratitude for the journey.
“With a heavy heart we’re making this announcement… we grew this amazing community and promoted our country on the world stage,” they wrote.
A Techno Legacy in Romania
Founded in 2007, Sunwaves has become a landmark festival for minimal and techno fans, drawing thousands of ravers from around the world each year to Mamaia, Romania. Known for its marathon sets, sunrise moments, and underground atmosphere, the festival helped shape Romania’s reputation in the global electronic music scene.
But after almost two decades, the festival is moving on.
Final Edition in Romania: SW35 (May 1–6, 2025)
The next edition, SW35, will take place from May 1st to May 6th, 2025, and will mark the end of Sunwaves’ journey in Romania.
The team also confirmed that the Spring 2026 edition (April 30 – May 5) will be held in a new country, with details to be announced soon.
“We’ll meet like we did before, in places where our community is treated with respect,” they said.
Looking Ahead
While this marks the end of a major chapter, it’s not the end of the festival.
Sunwaves Festival will continue. Just in a new location, on new shores, with the same spirit.
