Jeff Mills

The Wizard

Biography

Jeff Mills is one of the most pioneering figures in techno music. Born in Detroit, he began his career as a radio DJ before becoming a central force in shaping the city’s techno sound. Known for his precision behind the decks and his futuristic vision, Mills has spent decades pushing the boundaries of electronic music.

Often called “The Wizard” for his fast and flawless mixing style, Jeff Mills co-founded the legendary Underground Resistance collective, a movement that combined music with a message of empowerment and independence. His work has influenced generations of artists and helped spread Detroit techno across the globe.

Mills later launched Axis Records, a label dedicated to exploring techno as an art form rather than just club music. Through Axis, he has released countless records and conceptual albums that blur the line between music, philosophy, and science fiction. His fascination with space has led to collaborations with planetariums, film projects, and even partnerships with NASA, where his music explores humanity’s relationship with the cosmos.

Beyond DJing and producing, Mills is also a composer and performer who regularly collaborates with orchestras and contemporary art institutions. His projects often combine electronic music with classical composition, film, and visual art, cementing his status as a visionary and one of techno’s most important cultural figures.

Today, Jeff Mills continues to perform at leading festivals and clubs worldwide, inspiring new generations while redefining what techno can be.
