Boris Brejcha has announced that he plans to retire at the end of 2028. The German DJ and producer shared the news in an Instagram video on 24 October. He plans to make 2027 his last year of festival appearances, before a farewell headline tour in 2028.

In a statement alongside the announcement, Brejcha said the decision was his own and followed a long period of reflection. He said he is not ill and has not lost his enjoyment of making music. Instead, he wants to give the story of Boris Brejcha and The Joker a positive ending, comparing it to the final pages of a good book.

Brejcha is known for his high-tech minimal sound and the Joker mask he wears on stage. He began releasing music in 2006 and founded Fckng Serious in 2015. The mask became part of his identity after his first professional appearance in Brazil, where carnival provided its inspiration.

He has left his plans after 2028 open. Brejcha said he expects to begin a new story, but does not yet know what it will be. He has not announced a new alias or explained whether he will continue releasing music after the farewell.

The final tour is called Last Chapter: Becoming the Joker. Brejcha says he wants to play as many shows as possible in 2028 to thank the fans who have supported him. Dates and cities are still to be announced. His official website now directs fans to a Becoming the Joker sign-up page for updates.
