Amelie Lens has said she is six months pregnant with her second daughter and is still touring, including a recent headline b2b with Sara Landry at Magazine Open-Air in London. In a new DJ Mag cover interview published on 20 October, the Belgian techno artist said pregnancy has changed how she works on the road rather than stopping her performances.
DJ Mag reports that Lens and Landry mixed in their headphones with the booth monitors turned down during the London set. Lens said she keeps the volume low, stays away from the bass and carries a decibel meter, and that she went through her touring calendar with her team as soon as she knew she was pregnant, moving shows and adjusting flights and set times.
She said the harder part has been getting basic accommodations respected in a scene that is not built with pregnancy or parenthood in mind. In the interview, she pointed to practical requests such as a booth height that does not force her to hunch over, smoke-free dressing rooms, somewhere to sit before a set, and a pregnancy rider with coconut water, cashew nuts and bananas instead of alcohol.
The interview lands during a busy stretch for Lens. DJ Mag says she has just released her debut album, AURA, and around the release she staged a free full-album playback for 250 fans inside a temporary club built in an Antwerp arts centre, then played to 14,000 people outside the city’s Royal Museum of Fine Arts the next day.
